Each day

by Patrick Catanzariti

Be kind to all,
Help those in need.
Speak your mind,
But think before you speak.

Say yes to new possibilities,
Take chances, don’t play safe.
Experience all there is each day,
Smile.

Stay positive,
Don’t worry or stress out.
Every minute is worth living,
Remember that’s what life’s about.

Each day is a gift,
Be who you were destined to be.
You were brought here to do some good,
The universe has its plan, it’s fate. You’ll see.

Be a light in each person’s life,
Bring a smile to all you meet.
Go with the flow each day,
Don’t see life as a challenge to beat.

There’ll be difficulties and strife,
Times get hard and things get tough.
Open your eyes to the bigger picture,
The narrow view is never enough.

Things improve when you improve,
Try and become more each day.
Little by little, bit by bit,
Soon you’ll see things turn your way.

Love those close to you with all your heart,
Give them all the care you’ve got.
Be there when needed,
And even when you’re not.

Avoid insults and lies,
Stay honest and stay true.
Ask yourself one question every day,
What’s the right thing to do?

Keep these words with you when you can,
Maybe stick them somewhere all can see.
Whatever happens, just remember,
Life is what you let it be.

I wrote it around the middle of 2010 as a way of reminding myself of what's important each day. Then decided it could help others and put it online in a bit of an interactive poetry experiment here. It was my first ever publicly viewable poem. I wasn't laughed at and things weren't thrown, so it seemed to go well.
