Sigur Ros brackets album cover

Inkblot psych test! What do you see?

Album: ()
Artist: Sigur Ros

Summed up in one word: Different
Would I recommend to others: I’d definitely mention it in conversation as the album called ().
Animal it reminded me of: Some sort of peaceful animal, like birds. Maybe doves. Not so much magpies… dam enemies from the sky.
Situation this album definitely ISN’T suited for: Zumba class

For an album whose title contains no words or pronouncable letters, the music really speaks for itself… assuming you’re not looking for any means of understanding the music whatsoever. I had no idea what the guy was saying at all, i’m pretty sure it wasn’t English.

Every song for the album on iTunes had a generic “Sigur 1″ style title. Disappointing they actually put words in the names, i’d have preferred @, /, *, #, %, ?, ^ and – for the eight songs. Though maybe those symbols convey way too much meaning? @ could be a song about email, # about twitter or the phone book, ? would be a song of uncertainty, % obviously a song critical of the banks and the economic collapse of America and ^ a song about legal disclaimers. I don’t know what the symbol ยค is but it totally would go well with a song about space invaders.

To be honest, the music was really interesting and enjoyable to listen to. As far as different and experimental goes, this is pretty high up there for me. Even though I didn’t understand the lyrics, it was peaceful and relaxing just to lie back and lose myself in the music despite understanding none of it. Hopefully it wasn’t some sort of secret brainwashing scheme, I don’t feel like killing the Malaysian prime minister just yet.

After speaking to my friend Wikipedia (totally awesome to hang around when it’s other friend Jimmy Wales isn’t staring at you the whole time wanting attention) it turns out the music is supposed to sound like gibberish. It’s Hopelandic and is a language of “nonsense syllables”. Must be like Iceland’s version of Lorem Ipsum.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet.

Grazie to Daniel for his suggestion! If you have music you’d like me to give a try, tweet at me – @thatpatrickguy or send me an email.
